Crisis Grows in Bangla as Troubles Continue After President Leaves
Bangladeshi people have really had their bad time since June. There had been a burst of crisis after the past governments aggressive attack on the student protests, which ended up the escape of Sheikh Hasina, the president of that government, from her nation, which was built by her father. An interim government was formed, which was led by Muhammad Yunus and had many responses from the beginning of taking office. The current government of Bangladesh had also started facing its problems from various sectors, which let the people suffer a lot more than before.
The outbreak of dengue after the flood in the major cities of Bangladesh made the people question their country’s health care. Nearly 70,000 dengue cases have been recoreded so far now. The capital, Dhaka, was flooded with patients in their hospital. Even a few hospitals cannot provide bed facilities to the patients. The flood not only caused the health crisis to people; even the infrastructure in the capital and other major districts was also flooded with water. The flood in August was the heaviest one recorded in thirty years of Bangladeshi history. The new government was not really prepared for this disaster, which made this complicated to handle by them. The health and public service have not really been focused on by the interim government due to the political and social pressure they had at that time.
The economics of Bangladesh were remarkable in Southeast Asia for two decades in the Sheikh Hassina period. Her relationship with other countries made the economy of that country stronger, and the trade treaty between nations like India and America created the economy balanced. Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of exporters for top world brands like Zara, H&M, and Levis. The workers started protesting to increase the wages, which stopped the production of the nation. The reason behind the request for increasing wages is the increase in price essentials. There is a gradually increasing price of rice vegetables due to uncontrollable inflation; it made the people suffer for living in daily life, which ended up with the workers going for the streets protesting wages. The ports of Bangladesh had become 24/7 for increasing the export and import of the goods. In the years starting, the economy of Bangladesh was in its well-stated state. The sudden political turmoil resulted in the downfall of the economy of the nation.
It further caused problems with their source of electricity. The government has an agreement with the Adani Power of India for a power supply of 1,400 megawatts. The power plant in Godda, Jharkhand, contributes 10 percent of Bangladesh’s electricity supply, and the government pays for it. Due to financial crises, the government was unable to do the payment for the government; there has been an outstanding due of 850 million dollars that should be paid by the government to the company. The company initially set a deadline of October 31, and it was extended to November 7 for payment. It reduced its daily supply of electricity and shut down one of the two units to decrease its production. The company also assured that there would be no blackout of production, but this action of the company created panic among the people about their basics.
On top of all this problem, there have been serious communal issues for the past month. Since the protest during the political turmoil, there has been an attack on the minorities. Muslims being the major population and Hindus of the nations have always undergone through many problems due to suppression. The violence during political protest also just fuelled up the attack on the minorities, even though the protest’s main motto is going against Sheikh Hassin’s government and her action towards the student protest, but after becoming into a mob’s protest, the violence in the nation started getting higher. The attack on the Hindus and their property has been raised, and the steps for protecting those people by the government lack there. India is a neighboring country and also has a good relationship with Bangladesh for a long time. It didn’t help the people in any way; it just only helped in Sheikh Hassin’s escape.
The current Indian politics has been highly influenced by the Hindu ideology of the ruling party, which is also helpless to the Hindus of the neighboring country in the current situation; it’s also not too far from India. India tries to maintain silence on all the global issues, keeping all of it’s comments out of them, but the people may still except the some aid from India. There has been change of power in America it creates expectation of political and financial aid but Trump’s actions towards this situation are really unpredictable on this time. The politicians of the past government of bangladesh call people for going against the current government for all this issues made after Sheikh Hassin’s escapes. However, the interim governments tries to sort many things as they can, and the political pressure towards them creates unbalanced state in that country.
